I received a few emails recently concerned with the amount of softness in a low-fat, high fruit raw vegan diet. As expected, several of you are not very accustomed to the sweetness of the fruit both
To resolve this problem, many are beginning Foodista substitute raw vegetables salted and / or nuts, seeds and avocados to fresh fruit.
Great Loss
It are 2 problems with this approach:
Green 1. And the vegetables are low in calories
2. Nuts, seeds and avocados are rich foods high in fat
On the Greens, these foods are too low in calories. Even a salad of romaine lettuce 8 ounces, a large cucumber, chili all and two medium tomatoes is under 200 calories! The only way to increase the calories in these foods would include fruits or raw fat.
Which brings me to my second problem: fat nuts, seeds, and avocado. Foodista Contrary to what people (at both raw and cooked, and so on) as to believe, nut not a food rich in protein. Take one ounce of walnuts (14 halves), for example. With only 9% of calories from protein and a whopping 83% fat, it seems that nuts and seeds are really high-fat meal.
Lawyers are in the same boat, with 4% protein and 77% fat.
Side note: I mean the lawyer Hass here. There are lawyers with percentages lower fat, like some varieties of Florida, but they are not as readily available.
Although there is nothing inherently wrong with that, it becomes a problem when these foods are replaced by fruit and eat mass quantities. Although it is acceptable perfectibly eat a pound (or two) of fruit in one sitting is a recipe for disaster in terms of fat.
Excess fat has been linked to obesity and the heart, atherosclerosis, and even depression.
Therefore, side with the many doctors and health centers – including Dr. Joel Fuhrman Dr. Douglas Graham, Dr. Dean Ornish, and The Pritikin Longevity Center – recommend a diet low in fat for optimum health. This figure equates to about 1-2 ½ ounces of nuts or – 1 / 3 of a lawyer by day (in depending on your calorie needs).
This means that if you decide to replace the sweet fruit of the fat you need to keep their numbers low. Say you add 1 tablespoon of walnuts to the salad above example. This still only gives you about 350 calories!
And that is assuming you can actually eat as a salad mountain in a single session. I am very proud of my achievements when it comes to eating fruit. However, 8 oz lettuce and many vegetables?
No way, Jose!
With the low amount of calories in this dish, will be back in the kitchen for more fuel (probably form of simple carbohydrates) within the hour.
What to do?
The easiest way is to eat more fresh fruit. But you sick of candy! It seems we're back to square one, right?
Not really.
There is a tasty solution.
Go to green!
Green smoothies, that is!
A green smoothie – known gourmet, low fat crude Foodista alike – is a smoothie fruit with vegetables added. Sure, you've probably heard of them. But have you ever tried one?
Here's a first tasty recipe:
- 3 bananas
- 1 pint strawberries
- Handful or two of Romaine
Mix everything. Add water to get the texture you want. I love my smoothies thin, they tend to add a few cups of this mixture.
Why what works
The Green Works smoothie concept for (you guessed it) 2 reasons:
1. There is more fruit by providing fuel quality and fullness of her body.
2. The green helps reduce softness.
Although the green (and unlike the image of this beautiful post, sometimes look very seriously), the green smoothies are much more of a fruit-flavored food. As seen in the previous recipe, the batter is mostly fruit. Green has only one or two handfuls of romaine lettuce. Is this little "green-ness", which offers a nice dry, clean taste to foods. The drink is still warm, but not so sick.
And you can add more fruit or a smoothie do more to respond your calorie needs. For example, whenever I make smoothies (green or not), I must make two separate batches, because I love so thin.
* Sigh * If only 64 OZ mixers have been …
A sweet long term illness?
Foodista Almost all beginners former have a problem eating fragrant fruit, if at first sight.
Even I, the queen of fruit, not the goddess … I am, I had some problems. The bananas were especially repugnant to me. They were so thick and soft. Yuck!
Thinking Now that I eat bananas multiple daily!
If you stick to a high fruit, diet low in fat will not know no aversion to the usual sweetness. The procedure is generally not take long. We are talking about a few weeks or less, on average. And finally, you stop thinking like sweet fruit full. At some point it becomes a delicious mouth, watering, satisfying food.
