Everything I write comes from experience. In 1999, John Wiley and Sons published my book on aging. My research includes articles in the database Medline database, medical journals, books on the subject, and a random survey of members of my local senior center.
The investigation "How do you feel about aging?" There were five questions on the form: 1. What are the good things about aging? 2. What bad things about aging? 3. What activities do you like? 4. Occupation? 5. Age? (an optional question).
Only 40 people comleted form. "Why why members do not complete the survey? "I asked a secretary.
"I do not want think about aging, she says, "and make sure they do not like filling in forms!" Although I wanted more answers, I grateful that I received and used in my book. For more survey responses that members of a club.
A member response was particularly poignant. Shortly after her husband died, she decided, mainly for reasons of safety, leave his home and a retirement community. The pain of her husband's death does not diminish his enthusiasm for life. He has participated in activities, has remained active in his church and has been a community volunteer. In the survey form, which wrote about the miracle of life and enjoy every day.
Another club member has refused to answer the survey. "I can not think of anything good about aging," he said.
"Without no doubt you may think of something, "he said.
"Nothing," she said.
"Not a thing?" I asked hopeful.
"Nothing," he says firmly.
When I wrote the book for my elderly mother lived in a community Local assisted living. The disease had probable Alzheimer's and I saw her often. One day when I entered the building, I saw the director. We talked for several minutes, then I asked your question. "Can you tell me," I began cautiously, "why many people seem to be angry? "
"They are angry because they are old," was founded.
"Oh, I replied, in a loss for words. Since we had this conversation, I thought the reaction of the director, many times. I am now eight years old, wears glasses and two hearing aids. Even if I am a tightening of the "big" when I get up in the morning, inside a moment that I turn to full throttle. And as the saying goes, I am determined to "have a good day."
I grandchildren, twins, a boy and a girl, and are in college. At first, my grandchildren decided to call me "Grandma" and not "Nana" and "Nona" Corny or not. Becoming a grandmother has made me a better person. I am a more thoughtful, and focus on the positive aspects of aging.

As the brain ages change. We focus here on the adult brain, but there are certainly changes in infants and children. We used obtain only the information after the death, an autopsy, but modern techniques of brain imaging show us more than we would never imagined.
With the aging brain, it becomes smaller, less weight and volume. Brain way to lose ten percent of their initial weight at 20 years, although the most weight loss occurs after we are in the sixties. Besides the slots or grooves on the surface of the brain to start widen. Also generates the least of neurotransmitters in the brain.
Although the allegation my grandmother that her brain had cobwebs was not quite right, was not far. Abnormal brain protein-based fibers can accumulate. They are called neurofibrillary tangles and although do not fully understand, is suspected to cause symptoms of Alzheimer's and age memory problems associated.
It may also be accumulation of insoluble fibrous protein called amyloid in cells known form of senile plaques. These may be perfectly normal. Just do not know enough yet.
Our minds change as we age. Some of these changes are normal and others not. Some, for example, increased patience, reality can be good. We are learning more all the time, which is particularly important that we, and the general population, age. We examined the physical changes in the brain. Whatever the physical changes, We hope that all aging gracefully!
