Plasma Cutter Longevity

For those of us who may not be aware, tungsten is a rare metal used in manufacturing TIG (or GTAW) electrodes. The electrodes TIG request the type of toughness and resistance to high temperatures than tungsten alone can provide. Because the electrodes tungsten are designed to carry the current arc welding. It is noted that tungsten has a high melting point inconceivable, compared to other metals.
These electrodes come in different sizes and lengths and are available in either pure tungsten or tungsten mixed hybrid other rare earth elements and oxides. Choosing the right electrode depends on the type and thickness of material basis and whether to weld with AC and DC.
Please know that pure tungsten electrodes are expected to contain almost 100% tungsten and the highest rate of consumption of all electrodes. Tungsten electrodes are oddly less expensive than their alloy counterparts. These electrodes form a ball when heated and provide a welding arc very stable balanced AC waveform. Pure tungsten also provides a good stable welding arc sinusoidal AC – for welding aluminum and magnesium.
Thoriated tungsten electrodes (code color: red) contain a minimum of 97.30% of tungsten and thorium equilibrium. These electrodes are the electrodes used widely and are known for their longevity and ease of use. Thorium is much to improve the quality of the electron emission electrode. Therefore, improved arc starts and allows a greater ability to transport current. It also leads to a low level of contamination of the electrode Welding of others.
Ceriated TE (color code: orange) contain a minimum of 97.30% tungsten and the balance cerium. These electrodes is known that very good results in the welding of the current configuration of low DC. Thanks to their excellent starts to weak current arc, tungsten Ceriated are widely used as a tube orbit jobs and manufacturing of pipes, thin sheets of metal or work where small parts are soldered and delicate.
Lanthanum tungsten electrode (color code: gold) contain a minimum of 97.80% tungsten and balance of lanthanum. These electrodes are known for their excellent arc starting and arc stability, low-burn-off rate and the rapid integration capacity ignition. The fact is, in some cases, tungsten electrodes lanthanum can replace the 2% thoriated without having to make changes major in the welding program.
ZIRCONIATED TE (color code: brown) contain a minimum of 99.10% tungsten and the balance zirconium. ZIRCONIATED tungsten electrode arc is stable and capable of resisting tungsten spitting. The additional feature is its current capacity transport, which is equally if not more than thoriated tungsten. ZIRCONIATED electrodes are not suitable for the welding current.
Electrodes Rare Earth tungsten (color code: gray) contain unspecified additions of rare earth oxides or a mixture of different oxides. However, manufacturers State each additive and its percentage in the outer label. According additives, which can obtain a stable arc in both AC and DC processes, and more than longevity.
Finally, we can say that the quality and performance of arc welding to achieve will depend largely on the type and shape using tungsten. Each of these six types of tungsten has its merits and its weaknesses. It is therefore extremely important that you choose the tungsten law appropriate for each application.
